When I was in we didn't have our names sewn onto our cammies like they do now. When do they put your name on? Do the recruits have their name on their utilities I guess is what I am asking. Also 3rd DI, when will our guys get to blouse their boots? That was a big deal when we got to blouse our boots. I think we did toward the end of first phase, and we got our first high and tight in the middle of third phase, right before ICT, I think.

Thanks Maria, yes it is a huge deal when they earn the right to blouse the boots. Of course they will be told to un-blouse them many times when they aren't performing up to standard. They are getting close though. I figure they will be in 2nd phase by the time they get todays letter. No letter for us today. Anybody else get mail today?

SgtMac, all my recruits started to blouse their boots after the range. When I was SDI I would tell them before me moved to the range that that was their reward for qualifying. Your right my 3rd hat would always make them unblouse them when I wasn't there. Then when I would come in I put the 3rd hat in the DI hut and have them re do it. Thats why they love Dad. He calls off the dogs and pumps the boys up. High and tights start the 2nd week of 3rd phase.

Sgt Mack and Former 3rd DI, I can remember getting to blouse my boots like it was last week! and the high and tight came for me in 2cd Bn early 3rd phase. I also remember the old iron on eagle globe and anchor patch that you had better get right the first time because there was no re-doing it Ha Ha!

Nana, until one of our experienced members posts, I will give you a brief explanation of what blousing means--

It is rolling their pant leg under at the top of their boot. They use little boot blousers which are a sort of cloth covered elastic band to help do this and it is a point of pride for them to make them look perfect, they do not tuck them into their boots like soldiers do

Nana, the recruits are given boot blouses. Its a 3 inch green elastic band with medal hooks at each end that you place on the top of each boot between the 1st and 2nd eyelets. Then you take the bottom of your trousers and roll them under the bands so it looks like your trousers are tucked in to the top of your boots.

I think we are gonna have to start a thread for funny bootcamp stories. We have enough Marines here so there should be a good supply of "This is no ..."
nana, to blouse your boots means to roll your trouser legs up under an elastic band so they come down neatly to the top of your boot. That is when you first start to take pride in your appearance in uniform. Before your are authorized to blouse them, your trouser legs go clear down to your ankles and you look very unprofessional and mob like.

Ok, First funny story..because Donna already knows this one..I did not know what they were, so when my Marine came home on leave I washed his clothes for him. When I found some of those little elastic bands in my washing machine, I used them for my grand daughters Pony tails, and threw some away. Oops!!

Nanna, There are many ways to use boot bands. I had a friend when I was in the Corps that had ears that stuck out really bad,one day I came into the barracks and noticed he looked different. He had taken a boot band and hooked one of the little catches onto the back of one ear ran the bootband behind his head and hooked the other catch to the other ear, therefore pinning his ears to his head. He could not wear it that way long, said it hurt his ears, it was hysterical !

That is too funny, but kind of sad. With the official hair cut or shaved head I bet he hated those ears!
